CONTESTS: Congratulations to Megan, Winner of the AppStateNation Countdown to Kickoff Contest!

Congratulations to Megan! She won the AppStateNation Countdown to Kickoff Contest yesterday right as the game started. She entered just by following AppStateNation on Twitter.

She received an officially licensed print commemorating our legendary win over Michigan! As an added bonus, it turns out she is a former App State softball player (seen above). But that’s not the best part…she currently lives IN Michigan and plans on hanging it in her office! Couldn’t have worked out better!

Thanks to everyone who entered! I’ve added a Contests section to the site and plan on having another one very soon!

VIDEO: Interview with Carolina Panthers WR Armanti Edwards

Check out this video where the Carolina Panthers interview WR Armanti Edwards. Unfortunately the NFL doesn’t allow embedded video so you’ll have to click the image to open it in a new window.

Thanks to @SeanWelsch for the heads up on Twitter! Send us your tips to AppStateNation@gmail.com and we’ll give you credit on the site!

APPSTATENATION 2.0: New Look / Same Awful Content

Welcome to the new look for AppStateNation! What’s with the change you ask?

Well first off, the old site didn’t really match the message board, so this is an attempt at more uniformity.

More importantly, black on white is just plain easier to read than grey on black.

Finally, the size of the sidebar on the old theme was not big enough for most wordpress plugins. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, just know that it bugged the hell out of me.

So anyway, I hope you enjoy the new look. As always it’s a work in progress. To help me out, leave a comment and tell me how I could make it better. Thanks!

NOTE: The mobile/iPad version of the site has not changed.

BASEBALL: App State Rumored to be Eyeing Auburn Assistant Coach Link Jarrett

Source: Hearing Link Jarrett has #AppState and #UNCGreensboro very interested. #collegebaseball

Skippers Dugout

App State’s baseball head coach search has been pretty quiet so far. According to Skipper’s Dugout, we are taking a look at Link Jarrett, third year Director of Player Development at Auburn.

He is a 2 time SEC Assistant Coach of the year. He played at FSU before being drafted to the Colorado Rockies in the 22nd round. He’s also had coaching jobs at Flagler College, FSU, Mercer, & ECU.

Perhaps most impressively, when he took over as hitting coach at Auburn the team was hitting a mere .286 and in one year he turned that into a .308.

He’s been successful everywhere he has gone. I would be happy with this choice, but right now it’s still a rumor. My only concern is he strikes me as someone who will leave as soon as he is successful. It would be nice to have some coaching stability by hiring someone with ties to the school. For more on him, check out Auburn’s official Profile.

Apps for App State Fans: Tapatalk

In this segment, we cover mobile apps for App State fans. Today we look at TAPATALK.

It’s basically a forum app. The problem with most forums/message boards is that they don’t translate well on to a mobile browser. Tapatalk solves that for you. Why is it a must have for App State fans? Well just look at the message boards it’s compatible with:

  • Any Given Saturday (Want to remind Furman Fans they still suck? This is the place to do it.)
  • CSNbbs (Want the newest C-USA/Sun Belt rumors? Not many better places than here.)
  • Literally hundreds, if not thousands, of other boards on all sorts of topics, not just athletics

It works with iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, and Chrome. Basically, if you have a smartphone, chances are this will work on it.

So now when you’re sitting around waiting at the Dentist, or the Barber, or wherever…you can quickly see all the most recent topics on all your favorite boards — right from your phone. Once you have it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. Check it out.

SoCon All-Sports Champs: Appalachian State Wins 7th Straight Commissioners Cup

Well another year, another Men’s Commissioners Cup championship! Disappointed about the Women’s Germann cup though, but we only lost by 3pts. It’s great to be a Mountaineer!

SoConSports.com:

“ASU’s 27.5-point margin of victory over second-place Samford is the largest margin in the final Commissioner’s Cup standings since 2002-03 when the Mountaineers finished 29 points clear of East Tennessee State and Furman. …KEEP READING
