Today was national signing day and head football coach Scott Satterfield was on the David Glenn Show to talk about it. Take a full listen, but here is my favorite quote from the interview:

The effect that being a former App State QB has had on recruiting:

I think the fact that I bleed black & gold, I played here, blood sweat & and tears were here, for the period of time that I played. Not only that, I’ve coached here for 13 seasons. I mean so obviously this is my school. I just believe it down to my core. Some of these guys, they are making alot of money to coach at these schools and you know, so their excitement comes from their paycheck so to speak. Mine comes from down deep. I really and truly believe in this school…It’s an easy sell.

Football Recruiting: App State Lands 4-Star Oregon Transfer WR

5’9″ 177lb WR Tacoi Sumler, a 4-star recruit according to Rivals, is transferring from Oregon to Appalachian State according to tweets from his and QB Jamal Jackson’s twitter accounts.

He’s a redshirt freshman who still has a full 4-years of eligibility left with App State. He was a high school All-American, putting up 994 yds & 17 TDs for Christopher Columbus High School. He caught 3 passes for 15 yds in Oregon’s Spring Game.

Why did he transfer? Well frankly …READ MORE

#6 APP ST. COMMIT

Appalachian State got 2 commitments recently from identical twins Perez & Terez Cowan who are Juniors out of Decatur, GA. It looks like they also got some time at CB.

Judging from the highlight tapes and reading some things their coach wrote about them, I’m excited about their playmaking potential. My only concern seems to be that they …READ MORE

FOOTBALL RECRUITING: App State Offers WR Dante Jones

Appalachian State gave rising senior 5’11″ 175lb WR Dante Jones, out of SE Raleigh, his 2nd D-1 offer. He has also received an offer from Duke.

There are a lot of other schools interested this guy. ECU, NC State, UNC, Wake Forest, Clemson and others are all taking a look. I really like the fact that we are fighting with those types of schools for our recruits. It says a lot about our program.

Back in March, Clemson invited him to their camp in June and said an offer would depend on how he did there.

High School is a different game obviously, but judging from his highlight reel, he seems to be an explosive playmaker who can really fight for the ball.

FOOTBALL RECRUITING: App State Interested in OL Austin Turner (EXCLUSIVE)

Austin Turner is a 6’3” 285 lb All-Conference and All-State offensive guard/center out of Lexington High School, SC. He would definitely be an awesome pickup.

According to my sources:

Turner Spoke with App State coaches Scot Sloan and Justin Stepp earlier in the week several times. This was followed by Stepp’s return to Lexington’s Blue and White Spring game to evaluate Turner. Turner said after the game he talked to Stepp later Friday night and Stepp told him he did a great job and look forward to them working together soon.

Turner has plans to attend camp there on the 13th of June for further evaluation by Stepp, Sloan, Satterfield and Ledford. Turner has had a lot of interest from UNC but is being looked at by NC State, Clemson, and South Carolina as well and already has offers from Newberry, and Wofford College.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: PG Chris Burgess (FL) Verbally Commits to App State

According to ESPN, Chris Burgess is a 2-Star recruit ranked as the #34 player out of Florida. Nothing official announced so far, but this guy works for Scout.com and Fox Sports so it should be pretty reliable info. Here is a highlight video of him from this past season.

BASKETBALL RECRUITING: PG Frank Eaves (Page High) Commits to App State

I have officially committed to Appalachian State University….blessed 🙏
@FrankEaves21
Frank Eaves

Looks like a good pickup for Capel and company. Eaves was selected to the NCPreps.com All-State 4A basketball team. According to MaxPreps.com, he averaged 17.7 pts a game and is the #30 recruit in the highly competitive state. You can watch some videos of him in action HERE.

Video: BBall Recruiting + Conference Realignment & Other News

We’ve been talking about Rantavious Gilbert on here for awhile now. Albany, GA’s Local news WXFL reported on his signing the other day. He looks like a player that can step in and make a difference right away.

Other News:

  • CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT: The CAA might be loosing VCU and George Mason to the A-10 afterall. Atleast that’s what a new REPORT says. Officials from both conferences are openly denying it. But apparently multiple sources say that both schools, along with Butler, will be announcing the move on May 1. I guess we will find out. This could impact us in multiple ways if it happens. It is unlikely, but possible, that we could move to the CAA. However, it is VERY possible that Davidson and/or College of Charleston could make the move. That could leave the SoCon with a need to add some teams.
  • BASEBALL: App crushes Furman in the opening game 14-2. As a result, Ryan Arrowood remains unbeaten this season. Kassouf decided his first homerun needed company and hit a second one. App’s 7 runs in the sixth inning sealed the deal. Tomorrow’s game has been moved up to noon in an attempt to avoid bad weather.
  • MEN’S TENNIS: Advances to the semi-finals of the SoCon tournament after beating Elon 4-3 today. We play Samford @ 10:30 tomorrow in Charleston for the chance to play for a championship.
  • WOMEN’S TENNIS: The season is over after falling to Furman in the quarterfinals 0-4. However, the 13 win season matched the highest win total since the current coach took over in 1999. Congrats Ladies on a great season!
