Georgia Southern’s AD Tom Kleinlein spoke with the Eagle club about conference realignment. You can see an interview in the above video where he says some interesting things: On the slow movement of the Sun Belt:
They’re sitting there looking at the Big East thinking going well until we can figure out what is going on there, we’re not going to make any movement to show our hands too early. But I think as we move forward to the end of this year, obviously some decisions need to be made fairly quick…I think some decisions will be made this spring to early summer…
On non-conference scheduling:
We’re set obviously for 2013 and 2014…we haven’t scheduled ourselves too far out, as far as our non-conference games, in case some movement happens.
On rivalry with Appalachian State and if we are moving up together:
“…(Our Rivalry) I think would be appealing to any conference, that if you brought us or you brought them, to bring both of us would be a great idea”
On college athletics:
College athletics is a business, make no mistake about it. We are in the business of entertaining people and driving revenue through that entertainment and putting it back into resources so that young people can get great educations and great athletic experiences.
On how FCS football is viewed by the public according to an NCAA study:
BCS football, to the public, equals football…There is no connection right now to the public, in terms of FCS and Division I.
