SoCon Media Day: App State Leads With 10 Preseason All-Conference Players & Other News

The SoCon Football Media Day was held earlier today, Coach Moore & QB Jamal Jackson helped represent the Black & Gold at the event.

The All-SoCon team was released, and App State led the way with 10 players elected to the team including:

QB Jamal Jackson, Jr. (1st Team)

LB Jeremy Kimbrough, Sr. (1st Team)

DB  Demetrius McCray, Sr. (1st Team)

OL Kendall Lamm, So.

WR Andrew Peacock, Jr.

WR Tony Washington, Jr.

DL  Ronald Blair, So.

LB  Brandon Grier, Sr.

DB Troy Sanders, Sr.

P Sam Martin, Sr.

The preseason coaches & media polls were released as well. They matched each other minus App State & Wofford who flip flopped between 2nd & 3rd between polls.

We received 2 first place votes in the coaches poll. Since coaches are not allowed to vote for themselves I’m going to guess one of them was Georgia Southern. I’d also like to think our old asst coach Mark Speir, now at Western Carolina, was the other one, but that’s just a guess.

IN OTHER NEWS: take a look at Western Carolina’s new helmet that they announced a few days ago:

Purple is just ugly no matter how you spin it. I’m not a big fan of their Catamount logo either. I would have probably gone with a WCU block letter logo.

All that being said, it’s 10 times better than this ugly thing UNCC just decided to call a helmet:
