Appalachian State released pictures of our new alternate throwback jerseys today. They will only be worn during the Coastal Carolina game, then sold/auctioned off.
Right off the bat, you notice the old 70′s style Yosef makes a comeback. I’m sure folks old enough to remember that get a kick out of it.

Once you get past the logo, you notice that the gold/yellow color that frequents our alternate jerseys is present. Also, the 70′s style stripe going down the helmet is back.

Then all of that “old” stuff is kind of oddly mixed with Oregon-style Nike combat gear designs, but it’s not horrible. I don’t really love or hate it.

Earlier this offseason, there was a lot of hubbub about this fan-created prototype jersey that floated around the internet. I thought it looked pretty cool, in some ways better than what we ended up with.

In 2008, our throwback uniform was ranked the 9th best throwback uniform of ALL-TIME by Bleacher Report. I don’t know about all that, but they did seem like more legit “throwbacks”.

When it’s all said and done, they will make for a fun change of pace during the Coastal Carolina game. But for my money, our regular old black on black jerseys are up there with the best in the country anyway, especially at the FCS level.
