Thanks to Radiofan for giving me the heads up in the AppStateNation Message Board.
RUMOR ALERT (Believe at your own risk!!): According to Matt Peloquin of CollegeSportsInfo.com, he has sources that indicate that Davidson, Charleston, Furman, & Stony Brook could ALL be going to the CAA.
Stony Brook has long been considered a lock to get into the CAA by people who speculate on such things. Probability that it’s true as far as Stony Brook is concerned? – Very High
The CAA commissioner said OPENLY that he has contacted some SoCon schools about CAA membership. We know for a fact Davidson & Charleston are at least CONSIDERING the possibility. That much has been reported by reputable newspapers. So those 2 schools make sense.
It has been said on the interwebs that CAA representatives have visited Elon in recent months. Does it make sense? Yes. They would sorta kinda be a travel partner for UNCW, and they have decent football and baseball programs. They would definitely be a travel partner for Davidson, and may just be getting an invite so that Davidson would accept.
Furman though, this is the first I have heard of them being invited to the CAA. I’m sure Davidson, Elon, UNCW, and Charleston would be strong supporters of their addition. Furman, in general, has a strong football program. They won the national championship back in 1988, 1 of only 2 private schools to do it at the FCS level (Richmond is the other). I have no idea if it’s true, but if I were the CAA, I would want Furman.
So like I said before, this is a RUMOR. And even the rumor doesn’t imply that it’s a lock. But what if it’s true? What does it mean for Appalachian State? Well the SoCon would be left with only 8 members:
Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Chattanooga
Wofford
Samford
UNC-Greensboro
Western Carolina
The Citadel
If after not getting a C-USA invite or a Sun-Belt invite you thought it couldn’t get any worse…you were wrong. Hopefully this doesn’t happen, and if it does we need to take any FBS invite we can get.

Did you forget the Citadel?
Yes, but in my defense they are pretty forgettable lol Thanks for the heads up! It’s fixed.
Honestly, I could care less if Elon, Davidson, Chucktown, or Furman leave. Felon is the dirtiest playing bunch in the SoCon…try pulling down a kid from behind on the basketball court at JMU and see what happens.
If those four are lost to the CAA the SoCon could either take 2 FB schools and 2 BB schools OR 5 All sport members to get to 12 members for BB and FB.
Hopefully all sports members.

I really doubt App will go to CAA. That would be the dumbest possible move.
