Voice of the Mountaineers, David Jackson, was a guest on ESPN730 yesterday. Speaking of which, that radio station has been showing App State a lot of love lately. They had Charles Arbuckle on RECENTLY talking App State and ECU’s AD mostly fielding questions about App State.

David Jackson, who for my money is the best radio guy in the business, spoke about App State’s magical baseball run, the upcoming football season, and perhaps most interestingly, conference realignment:

It takes the right alignment, the right relationship from a conference perspective. And quite honestly, let’s be perfectly honest about this, the right politics, and hopefully those things can transpire to put Appalachian in the best situation that it can be in, no matter what that situation is.

And I think that obviously Charlie Cobb and Dr. Ken Peacock have been very busy, behind the scenes, making sure that everybody has the correct facts about what Appalachian is and what they can be to a league.

And obviously (ECU AD) Terry Holland, I’m sure from a business sense, sees that Appalachian as a partner, in his current situation, would not be a bad thing at all, from a geographic rivalry perspective, from a fan drumming up perspective. You know, we saw how popular the ASU/ECU basketball game was in Charlotte last year.

We’ll continue to see that alliance, hopefully, strengthen. And see more and more opportunities for ASU and ECU to play each other, in all sports, until one day a conference relationship can be realized.

What may surprise some, but not those who listen to him during baseball season, he admits that baseball is his favorite sport although he loves football and basketball. I’m sure he really enjoyed this season.
