Yesterday I POSTED about ECU’s AD appearing on ESPN730 and talking App State. Well immediately before that they had ESPNU’s Charles Arbuckle on and they also talked some App State. I included the full audio for you up above (Skip to 2:30) . He says a lot of positives, but most of the takeaways are kind of negative:
App State is now almost like the former girlfriend who was just totally decked out, everybody loved her, 5 years ago, 6 years ago. She’s not getting the same looks anymore. And I hate it for App State because they, sometimes when you’re on the front end of things, you don’t always get the spoils.
They set the bar so high, that it’s actually starting to hurt them. And I don’t think they have the right people talking for them.
I think they’re the victims, sometimes, of their own success. And I’m hoping, you always need an angel, or you know somebody, to come along and help you in anything you do. And it seems like App State needs a conference angel to come along and say “Hey look, we haven’t forgotten about you. We want you here.” Are they gonna get it? I don’t know. I really don’t.
Wow, this is the first time I have heard a third party say publicly that maybe ASU needs better or different representation for them in regards to selling ASU to the FBS conferences. He makes a lot of good points but I don’t see that he offers any major solutions.
I totally agree Deano. Without any solutions (ASAP) this is going to be one tough pill to swallow.

Cobb’s first real challange after years of riding the wave. He has failed to date on this transition. I hope he pulls it together and surprises me. But in the real world he would be canned at this point.
Confirming what I’ve been saying for months. Cobb has missed opportunities (namely the SBC) by exclusively lobbying for an unrealistic option in CUSA.
