CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT: UTSA to C-USA / North Texas, FIU, & LA Tech Very Likely

According to a report from Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports, UTSA will join C-USA in 2013. The move will supposedly be finalized on Wednesday.

In addition to UTSA:

Conference USA also is looking to add North Texas and Florida International from the Sun Belt and Louisiana Tech from the WAC, sources told CBSSports.com from last week’s BCS meetings in Hollywood, Fla.

Sources also said Charlotte remains a possibility to join C-USA as an all-sports member in 2013, but its football program, which will begin play in 2013, would not be able to compete in C-USA until 2015, at the earliest.

It’s hard to keep track of this mess, but I think it would make the conference look something like this:

East Division

FIU (add)

LA Tech (add)

UAB

ECU

Marshall

Southern Miss.

West Division

UTSA (add)

North Texas (add)

Rice

UTEP

Tulane

Tulsa

Heaven forbid if UNCC was added they would probably need another western school to balance it out. However, if they did take UNCC that might be one more slot in the Sun Belt open for us, so it’s a give and take. Personally I don’t think UNCC is ready for the C-USA, but crazier things have happened.
